Reassurance is not enough

When reassurance is not enough

Sometimes reassurance helps. Sometimes you still need more information. You are allowed to ask for the reasoning, the plan, the review point and who is responsible for the next decision.

Ask for the reasoning

“I understand you are reassuring me. Please can you explain why this is not concerning in my situation?”

Ask for the plan

“What is the plan from here, and when will this be reviewed again?”

Ask what would change the advice

“What would mean we should call back, come in or be reviewed urgently?”

Ask for senior review

“I still do not feel reassured. Please can this be reviewed by the senior midwife, obstetrician or doctor responsible?”

Ask for documentation

“Please can you document that I raised this concern, what I reported and what advice was given?”

Hear Her First does not tell you what clinical decision is right. It helps you ask clear questions, understand the plan and seek further review if you do not feel reassured.
